Mini Nursery Program Lippo Cikarang
Lippo Cikarang green program, known as Lippo Cikarang Mini Nursery Program with Schools is entering the 3rd stage, which is to move plants from the nursery house at schools to wider bare land. This outdoor activity was followed by six schools.
Meow Chong Loh, Chief Executive Officer of PT Lippo Cikarang Tbk said that at the early stages of this program, namely in last December 2009, students were invited to sow seeds of plants in green houses built at schools. Those were seeds of nurse tree, such as; teak, mahogany, sengon, trembesi, and flamboyant.
At that stage, students were also taught of how to adjust the composition of fertilizer for seedling to grow well, through the guidance of the greening team of Lippo Cikarang.
Three months after the sowing, students will move young plants to polybags. In the 2nd stage, students would be encouraged to observe the process of plants growing.” he said in Cikarang.
Saving the Environment
Now, he said that, when plants are six months old, it is time to move plants from school nursery house to land. The Location is by the slope of Vassa Lake. There, plants would be symbolically moved to the planting hole prepared, in which students could see and even participate in the process directly.
"Through this program, we want to educate students to undergo a series of processes to save the environment. Number of trees reduce hot air, and also bring coolness in the vicinity. Trees produce more clean air and oxygen which is good for our lungs, afterward makes our lives become healthier." explained by Meow Chong Loh.
Six schools had joined in this program; there are Sekolah Pelita Harapan, Sekolah Karya Iman, SKN-Anglo, Sekolah Tunas Bangsa, Sekolah International Islamic Boarding School, and SD Negeri 06 Sukaresmi.
Mini Nursery Program is one way that Lippo Cikarang has been doing to invite students to get involved in the greening process in the surrounding area.
Experience in building nursery to accommodate the needs of trees throughout the region is one reason that contributes to the success of Mini Nursery Program. Since 2009, Lippo Cikarang has successfully planted 5000 trees.
